    MyDore Latest News

In case some of you have missed it, check out the latest news on MyDore re possible future Government changes towards dyslexia.

Even if your child hasn't been diagnosed with dyslexia (as Harry wasn't), they probably have some traits of it. This is something we can do to help.

I had a look at the message too Chris and did wonder if it was worth me replying but like your Harry Leila was never diagnosed with dyslexia even though she had the traites of it. This has always been a stumbling block for my endeavours to get Dore recognised, because with out a devinitive diagnosis Leila cannot be measured.

I have always argued that there are 6% of children in schools who never have a diagnosis for their learning difficulties even though they may have traites of several of them. Comes in handy for statistics though as they are never entered as part of the statistics of dyslexia, dyspraxia etc so slip through the net.

I may well write to give my own story and they can do with it as they wish you never know. Ellie XXX

    Hi,
I have just looked at that massage and sent a reply to the chap. Don't expect it will make any difference but at least I've put my story across!

My daughter has just been assessed by the LEA Ed Psyc (this was after she had completed the DORE programme) and I dread to think what her results would have been if she had been seen by the LEA Ed Psyc when I first requested it 2 1/2 years ago!  The DORE programme has been fantastic for her (she started the day after her 7th birthday - what a birthday present!) and she was on the programme for about 20 months.  The only thing we haven't had is her final assessment, which was due on 6th June in Cardiff.  I would like to have seen her final results compared to her initial results and also she would have received a medal for completing the programme (my friends daughter completed the programme in March and she was ecstatic and very tearful when she received her medal for completing the programme)

Last week at the end of year presentation at the Junior School, my daughter (Tegan) was presented with the award for the "Best Effort in work for Year 3".  I know that without the DORE programme Tegan would never have achieved this.  She was so excited about her award and now wants to go and buy some books with her prize! She is also taking part in the local library Summer Reading Scheme and reading the books herself this year!   (Our local library have been excellent and purchased a copy of Wynford Dore's book when I put in a request for it!)

Don't give up on the programme - it does work!  Persevere and the world is your oyster!!!

AndreaS - thanks for writing. This is what is so sad about not getting the regular assessments for the children - for us its nice to see those green scores and we see the progress as our child moves through the programme, but for the child who has persevered for all that time doing the exercises twice a day, getting that final assessment and medal or certificate means so much. To wind-down on MyDore just isn't the same is it?

    Re: MyDore Latest News

My daughter, Tegan, had completed the 3 weeks of exercises in the 'wind-down' book just before DORE collapsed and we were then just waiting for the final assessment (after the final 3 weeks of exercises - which also wind down as over the 3 weeks you do less and less exercises - you then have 3 weeks of no exercises before your final appointment).  So although I have registered on MyDore we havent' actually used it.

I might email, asking that if Tegan is not going to have a final assessment then please could they send her a final completion certificate/medal, as this would mean so much to an 8-year old or tell me that at some point (whenever we get to the top of the list - appointment was due 6th June) that she will have this final assessment.

Best wishes to everyone still doing the programme - It is a struggle at times to get your child to do the exercises (try the odd one yourself and you might see why they are complaining!  I didn't appreciate her complaints until I tried holding my arms out to the side for 2 minutes!) but have faith because you will see results in the end!

Good idea about the certificate. Tegan will be thrilled I'm sure.

I know what you mean about holding out the arms - Harry hates those. We have the heel/toe, arms out to the sides, walking up and down at the moment - a repeater which we hate! Big Smile

    Re: MyDore Latest News

Conor had been assessed by an educational psychologist with dyslexia before commencing the Dore programme. I intend to mail Sir Jim Rose ( have already looked up his credentials!) but I really want to try and make an impact so am going to take my time to get it just right.

Andrea, you are quiet right about the length of time it takes the LEA to react and deal with a situation. By the time we felt sufficiently confident to say to the school there was something wrong with Conor's learning/processing, he was already in Yr 4. We felt at that age that speed was of the essence so paid privately- a decision his Head couldn't disagree with. Thank God we did otherwise he'd have been well into Yr 5. The psychologist advised that we implement nstrategies to help him immediately as if we didn't then by secondary education he would drown in the amount and pace of information he needed to process and it would virtually be a lost cause. Our daughter possibly is benefitting from our raised profile at school as she's been placed on an IEP in year 1 so hopefuuly she'll get sorted sooner. You were certainly on the ball with Tegan!

One of the parents on here was saying their child would miss out on getting a medal and someone at Dore picked up on it and sent one through. Try mailing them as they really do seem to want to help and it is such an achievement for her.

Don't think its a mistake - I think you can generate new exercises after about 10 weeks since your last lot.

If you press the button, you will generate new exercises but you'll lose the videos etc from your existing book. If it were me, I'd finish my existing book and generate new exercises when you're done.

    Re: MyDore Latest News

I generated a new set of exercises on Monday and all went well with the process, however, when I need to update on the daily section - all the exercises are completed (if they appeared on the last set). Is there a way of clearning the spaces - Ive been looking for a reset style button somewhere ? I did go through all the exercises and mark them not done but the individual days are still remain completed.Am I missing something ? I would appreciate a word from anyone who is in the same boat. Thanks.

Hi dr whosam1 - thanks  - I had trouble understanding exactly what you meant but we have done the extras and have generated a new set - all now ready for grading. I can only assume the system is making sure all the ex (including the extras) have been completed or at least marked as such.

    Thanks again.
