We have had an updated assessment report on Matthew this week. The Ed Psych decided he wanted a Wisc IV as the initial one done in March 2006 needed updating from the WISC III. They are planning on updating this prior to him moving to Secondary school, and wanted them both on the same test.
Interestingly the verbal weaknesses found on the initial report have disappeared, his verbal comprehension index is average 98 previously he scored 83!! Wow what a jump from below average to almost smack on average (even if you can't compare directly as they are different tests), I see this totally down to Dore as it was the first thing we noticed after starting, words coming out that we had no idea he knew, not as much umming and arghhing and you know, you know (come to think of it we never get that now). Auditory and verbal processing is supposed to be one of the 1st things to improve and even the teacher commented that he was joining in with conversations and not looking lost anymore (she didn't know about Dore at the time.)
The new test now measures working memory, his lowest score, was 88 -low average, the very thing that Dore says they target, so an update on that in 2 years will be interesting. Processing speed was also on the low side 91 so room for improvement there as well (God knows what this would have been last year). I should say 100 is average (90-109).
Reading now scores at age 10.4 (Feb 2007 8.6) (Nov 2006 9.6)
Spelling Age 8.0 (Feb 2007 6.3) (Nov 2006 6.6) Spelling has really jumped, I have been doing Stairway to Spelling with him sinc end of Feb 2007 but he is finding this easy on the whole:- the abilty to retain the information is there.
