    Re: DORE closure Australia

I think this would be great Jean!  I think it would very positive for us Aussies to get together to put something forward as a unified group to the PM/Government.  Would it also be of benefit in having something also go to the Education Departments in each state?

    Re: DORE closure Australia

Hi , I'm fairly new to this so I hope I'm doing everthing ok!  In response to your post Kay I thought contacting the PM was a great idea. I sent an email on the 30th May in the first few desperate weeks. Dore in Administration fell within the portfolio for the Minister for Health and Ageing (the Hon.Nicola Roxon MP)  - not the Education Department as I also thought. I received a letter from the assistant secretary of the Mental Health & Suicide Programs Branch. The letter basically said that  kids with ADHD, Dyslexia and Autism can respond to a variety of interventions and the gov't provides programs to mange their symptoms. Plenty of references to Psychiatrists, Psychologists etc.... They just don't have a clue how Dore can help all of these problems -  I get so frustrated with the system!

I should have introduced myself initially -  I have a son Liam (9) who started the program in January. We attended Dandenong clinic in Melbourne and Tom was our program practictioner. I miss his motivation!!!  We haven't missed one exercise session yet so I'm desperately hoping that Wynford will get all these kids through to the end of their program. I want to see Liam go through his schooling without being scolded for his inattention/behaviour!   I don't need a band-aid solution offered by our government.

I'm feeling a little lost at the moment and some team work in Aus maybe what we need? I don't have great computer skills but if someone wants to organise a petition I think it would be a great idea.

Hi Jo, Kay and Jean - welcome on board.

I like the idea of a petition too, but don't have the know how or skills to organise one.  I am sorry I haven't been on here in a while, things have become pretty difficult  - with my marriage falling spectacularly apart at the seams.  Trying to focus on keeping the family together for now.

Sorry I can't be of more help, I haven't received a response from the health minister as yet except what I already reported here,  though i did send a letter back to her asking more questions and hoping for a better answer, I will keep checking the posts here as often as I can, just overwhelmed atm

    thank you

Sorry to hear of your troubles Fallenash I should think you have a lot on your plate at the moment, I wish you luck for the future and hope that things will sort themselves out eventually. It can't be easy trying to keep as normal a life at home when your world has been turned upside down.

Do your government have an online E- petition site like the UK that would be one place to start for you all in Australia. It would probably give you information on how to set one up. Ellie XXX

    Re: DORE closure Australia

I have just had a quick look at the Australian Govt website. Seems to be from what I read, that to put a petition to our Govt that this needs to be done with each separate petitioners actual personal signature and address, so can not be done via computer/email.  So, I am not sure where we can go from here - happy to hear any suggestions. I was thinking of emailing the Govt petition contact email to ask if a computer generated petition can be accepted, surely in this day and age it could be??  I too am not greatly computer savy, however I know people who are, so I am sure that I could assist in some way in getting something going if we can find a way to do this?  So let me know any further ideas and I will keep you posted about my email to the Govt.

Hi Jo - we too were at the Dandenong centre of DORE with Tom!!  It really is a small world!  Our Maddie is 9yrs old and we too have been doing our exercises daily.  She is confused about not going to the centre (and misses seeing Tom and the team!).  We still haven't told Maddie that the centre is closed, rather we have told her that DORE are just doing things differently as she has been on the program since Oct 07 so they think she can now not visit the centre and just do the program via email. How do you explain it to a child of this age?  We too are hoping that something along the lines of the UK will come into play and there will be a centre opened somewhere, sometime to contine the testing and personal touch of DORE we were used to.

RE: contacting the Education Department, I know that DORE doesn't probably come under their umbrella, but I know that DORE were doing sessions with Dept of Ed about DORE and how it can assist students, so this is why I wondered if it would be worth putting something to them too, surely there are some teachers out there who seen the program making a difference to their students who were on the program, I know Maddie's teacher seen changes?  It makes me so cross, the response that you mentioned about from the Govt sending you information about programs/interventions etc that can "manage the symptoms" ......what are they thinking!!!  I agree we dont need band-aid solutions to these issues our kids face, we need DORE!!   We too are are feeling lost not having the centres and personalised service we were getting, MyDore is ok, but it is not the same and not having the checks and testing to reassure and motivate Maddie and us is difficult.  I think that MyDore in conjunction with the centre's and regular testing would work great together - love the video demo's of the exercises, this helps us greatly as often my hubbie and I have differing views on how the exercises are done!

I know that the Dandeong centre had a parent support group going, we didn't attend as it is a 2hr drive to the centre from where we live.  Did you attend these sessions?  I have been in contgact with some other parents who have used this webiste from Australia to support each other which I have found helpful as I felt a bit alone in the begining too.  It would be great to have some way of all connecting.

Hi Fallenash - Ellie has summed up my feelings about your situation. Keep your chin up!

    Calling all Australians on DORE

I have just listened to Wynfred's message, are we totally forgotton about or what. It is great the UK are getting some appointments but we are the forgotton by the looks of it. Why do we have to do DORE's job in Australia and get on to our Government, this is ridiculous, we have paid and lost our money, and to make matters absolutely worse we are NOT getting the same attention that the UK are getting, we have 5500 people in Australia on this program and they are doing absolutely NOTHING for us, no letters, no communication, any communication is directed towards the UK and to make matters absolutely worse, Wynfred has the cheek to get us to lobby our Government to get their business back off the ground in Australia. Yes it would be to our benefit if it did get going and the Government helped out but really after hearing the lack of attention we are getting from Wynfred do you really think it would be. Why should we become sales reps for DORE in Australia when they are doing absolutely nothing for us over here. As I said in another message, they could very easily arrange to open one of the centres in each state of Australia with one staff member every 7 weeks and even if we had to pay a small amount (which of course is ridiculous) it would be worthwhile. I will say it again and hope that somebody from DORE reads this, THERE ARE MANY THINGS DORE YOU COULD BE DOING FOR THE 5500 POOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN ABSOLUTELY RIPPED OFF BY DORE SO INSTEAD OF TURNING US IN TO SALES REPS AND ASKING US TO PROMOTE YOUR COMPANY IN AUSTRALIA JUST TRY GETTING THE 5500 POOR PEOPLE THROUGH THAT YOU MADE A CONTRACT WITH.

Another point is, (and yes I do believe the program works because I am now seeing results), this program has been going for some time now and the money rolling in from America, New Zealand and everywhere else it is or has been should have been already used to get the Scientific backing needed to document these results so they can prove to these Governments that it works, why are they suddenly racing in to do this now, are the Americans and every other country involved in DORE who haven't gone in to liquidation worried and dropping out when they have seen what has happened to the UK and Australia.

Wynfred mentions we have myDore, big deal, we dont have the appointments the UK have though do we, we deserve better Australians, I think everybody should lobby Wynfred and get him to do something for Australia, it really shows how important we are to him and the DORE corporation by the lack of thought they have given us, even the fact the Australian website is disappearing and the UK one will go on for now.

As I said before in another message, DONT BE COMPLACENT OR GRATEFUL, WE HAVE PAID OUR MONEY AND HAVE BEEN ROBBED OF GOODS NOT SUPPLIED TO US AND WE ARE BEING TREATED LIKE SECOND CLASS CITIZENS, STAND UP FOR YOURSELF AUSTRALIANS AND LOBBY WYNFRED, GET HIM TO DIRECTLY TALK TO US AS AUSTRALIANS NOT INFERRED COLLECTIVELY AS AN AFTERTHOUGHT ON HIS MESSAGE.

I cant urge every Australian enough to get behind this message and lobby Wynfred, he seems like a really nice person and has done wonders for many but when it all comes down to it his heart is with the UK, we need to get his attention or we will be walked over like we are being walked over now.

    Re: DORE closure Australia

Why can't they franchise the business?

That way, if someone in Australia, or anywhere else wanted to open a clinic, they could receive training and endorsement from "Dore Central" and off they go.  The methods are there, and they appear to work, so why should the collapse of a company stop people from gaining benefit from the program?

Can this information be made semi-public?  Or does the program die with the company?

My husband was about to start the program when the company folded, so we are high and dry, and may never know if it would have worked or not.

    I hate waiting.

    Re: DORE closure Australia

I totally sympathise with you Admonsta, I hope you didn't lose your money, I have two on the program, one 19yo boy and one 13yo boy and the 19yo isn't that great at doing the exercises twice a day but his balance has improved to no end, his eye co-ordination has improved as well and he seems to be not as nervous and able to do exams now and retain information, his organisation has not improved though but then Rome wasn't built in a day, I would say his ADHD symptoms have just about gone, his social skills I would like to be a bit better, but I think by choice he just loves his computer and that is his future with the course he has chosen, like people love clothes and shoes he just loves computers and their insides, he does get moody when he has to do the two a day, not because he has to but it seems the pattern that you have to go through before the fog clears.

The 13yo, he has been a different story, we haven't seen really much improvement in him and were quite desperate as were the school, we were told to put him on once a day for one month which we did and he settled a bit. We just had school holidays and I was promising the school he would get better once we went back to twice a day over the holidays, with him we can see in his footy how he is going, he has been pretty hopeless all year really, in fact, he was a beautiful marker of the ball and got in to it very well and even he was saying DORE is wrecking me, I wasn't like this last year, honestly he couldn't even catch the ball and the coach was taking him off the field more than he was on, it was really sad and of course it didn't help that I am the positive one in all this, my husband doesn't believe this can work but, 4 weeks ago he managed to mark the ball, it was the first day of twice DORE for awhile, then he got worse over the next 2 weeks at footy and we thought may be it isn't for him, may be he should just stick to basketball which he is very good at, that seemed a little lacking but not as much as footy, 2 weeks ago he played really well and marked the ball once, he still got taken off but he had improved, last week he kicked a goal, had 6 marks, 5 kicks, heaps of tackles and was on the field for the whole game, last night at training my husband saw the last 5 minutes and watched him go in, get the ball, break through a pack, hip and shoulder two of our biggest players on the field to the ground and kick a goal, in fact the assistant coach told him to take it easy or he would injure his own players and they wouldn't be able to play Sunday, the coach told my husband he had a fantastic training session and my husband actually came home and said for the very first time ever, I cant be sure but I think there just may be something to this DORE, it is inspiring to see this and I hope anybody out there reading this who is struggling with their kids to do DORE this helps, it just seems to really be a huge fog they get in to, takes their confidence away completely and everyone around them but you really need at least one 100% positive person behind them to just grit their teeth and keep on going, my son has actually come home from school several times and sport and said I think DORE is helping me, today I did such and such which I couldn't have done before.

Oh, one other thing, at the beginning of the year the 19yo had to do as part of his course soldering, everyone else seemed to be able to do it and had fairly steady hands and he was so frustrated, he just couldn't do it, he battled through but decided he would probably have to repeat the class next year anyway, a couple of weeks ago at an exam he was the best in the class at soldering, he said Mum it was amazing, I had the steadiest hand there and the rest were getting really frustrated, my soldering turned out really well.

I really like your idea about somebody else taking it over, it would be nice collectively if the 5500 people in Australia who have lost out in all this could band together and somehow get together long enough financially etc. to just get you through and finish off their DORE programs, surely this cant be too hard, there must be some business people out there who could figure out how to rent the centres for a day or so every 7 weeks with the equipment and have a staff member just quickly go through all the people in their state, just the results, no time for chatting or anything just results, it really doesn't seem that hard, even, DORE could send a staff member over from New Zealand or America to help out, if everybody payed a small fee surely this could be done every 7 weeks or even every 14 weeks, anything is better than nothing.

    Re: DORE closure Australia

    Hi Amanda (and others),

I have had the following message through from Wynford; I hope this also covers your other post in the "On the Programme" forum, I know Wynford has read both and I believe meant for this to be the case:

    Wynford Dore:
    To Amanda in general chat…

Many thanks for your contribution – I fully understand and appreciate the sentiments you have, I would feel exactly the same.  As result of reading your blog this morning I dictated a “from the heart” replay which you can access from the link at the bottom of this blog.

Others have said similar things to me and when I explain the background they fully understand that actually we are doing everything in our power to help everyone.  We take our responsibilities extremely seriously, and have huge feelings for everyone that have been disappointed by the closure of so many centres.  Hopefully when you have read my blog you will understand why we were forced to do what we did and (hopefully) agree that we are doing everything within our power to reach clients as quickly as possible with the best resources we can.

If you have got any other ideas about what we could be doing please let me have them.

    Wynford Dore

I have uploaded the letter Wynford mentions here as a PDF: http://media.dorecentres.com/PDF/Wynford_Client_Communication_18_Jul_2008.pdf

There is also a letter from Roy aimed at Australia clients available here: http://media.dorecentres.com/PDF/Roy_AU_Update.pdf

I am in the process of updating all of the various websites and MyDore sites with links to these as well.

    Thanks for the information, Jevon.

Out of the ashes rises the Phoenix.

These letters have given me great hope for the future of the program.  I'm grateful to Wynford Dore for his commitment to the people in need of help. In my opinion, those responsible for satarting, developing and now rescuing Dore are heroes.  The company may have collapsed, but the amount of good that has been done by the program cannot be denied. I am now very confident that the Dore program will be restarted, better than before.  We just have to be patient.  My husband has been patient for 35 years.

My husband struggled all through his childhood.  He had hearing problems until grade 2, when they finally got grommets put in, but by then, the damage was done and he fell behind in his education.  He became naughty and was ultimately sent to a special school for difficult children.  It is something that he is very embarrassed about, because most of the children at the school had very severe problems.  He didn't really fit in there.

My  husband duxed his school, and was the only one to go to university.  He now holds a managerial position in a transport company.  These things he did while struggling every day with dyslexia.  I wonder what he could have done if the Dore program had existed when he was young, and if his parents had searched hard enough for a solution.  He was very hesitant to start the program, because he's worried it won't work.  If this doesn't work, then it's confirmation that he's stuck this way.  I managed to convince him that he had to give it a go, and he agreed.  When it re-opens, we'll be at the front of the queue.

    Thanks again to everyone,

    Monica

Very concerned, could you please elaborate on what you mean that we are losing our Australian website?  Is my dore going to shut down here?  I couldn't find any information regarding this and am very worried.

     Thank you

    Re: DORE closure Australia

I can see where your husband is coming from Monica I too have struggled for many years a few more than him Hee Hee. But I too fought my demons of dyslexia (only diagnosed a year ago) and became a qualified nurse, but I have always continued to struggle in so many areas.

When my daughter Leila commenced school I could see the same problems in her as I had suffered but this time i thought in this day and age with all the technology available there must be an answer to what afflicts us both and so began my seach.

It wasn't easy to find an answer with so many of her symptoms falling into all learning difficulty brackets. 6 months of searching Leila was 9 by then and I was dispairing that there was an answer. I came off the computer one night after another fruiteless search and saw a advert on Sky TV for a company called The  DDAT which later became renamed as the Dore Achievment Center

After looking them up on the computer and doing their online questionnaire in which Leila had 16 of the 24 symptoms they rang me and there our journey began. Leila is over 2 years post Dore now and is the child I could well have been if Dore had been around in my day. We now have her brother Kieran going through it and eventually like your husband I too will finally undertake it myself and put my old difficulties to rest.

So I too wil be wiating in line with your husband to begin the new MyDore programme once Kieran has completed his. The one thing I am very much aware of is that CDD is hereditory so in the future Dore will be there not only to help this generation, my generation and my mothers generation who also had it, but also the future generations of our children to come.
